Bickal Koi Farm: Koi House Blog Holding Tanks for "For-Sale" Koi - Digging |
July 20, 2006 My origional plan was to build raised tanks on the cement. This turned out to reduce my head room and floor space. Not to mention the tanks were smaller than what I wanted. With an in-ground tank, I would be able to build bigger, and still have room to get around. Concrete is all busted up. The new tank will be 9'x9'x3' deep. Filter, Settling Chamber and Pumphouse will take up an additional 3'x9'. It should be around 2400 gallons. I should be able to overwinter all of my fingerlings in this tank. ![]() I am training this little apprentice to be the next "badger" . All of the dirt had to be thrown "up and out" the window behind me. It was quite the experience, not to mention the temperature and humidity of the koihouse in the summer.. ![]() |
July 23, 2006 Im finally finished digging... Took alot longer than I expected due to just a "few" tree roots. A 6' diameter soft maple use to grow behind the koihouse. Man, what a mess. I had to use the chain saw on quite a few of them. ![]() ![]() |
July 23, 2006 I had to throw the dirt out the window as I dug. Check out the pile that was left when I got done.... Oh yeah, 300+ Cubic feet worth I ended up with a 12x9x3 hole. Ready to start framing up the filter pit. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
