Bickal Koi Farm: Koi House Blog Holding Tanks for "For-Sale" Koi - Framing |
Aug 14, 2006 Well, ive been busy working away on this tank. After I got the foam on the walls, my inside dimensions were 8'6" x 9'6". It only used up 13'6" of the 15' of liner. I had enough rubber that I dug down to a depth of 4'. I can't stand to waste liner. I gained an extra 600 gallons this way. This tank is gonna be to big to catch koi for customers anyway, so i'll just get some rubbermaid containers on flow-through for that. FYI, they warn that if you bust ice, the concussions will hurt koi. Apparently breaking up a concrete floor next to a tank will do the same thing. I had a 14" koi still left in the koihouse. He came up to eat every day. Day after busting the concrete, I never saw him again (that is) until the night TheRon called, I found him floating dead. Had to be the concussions that got him. Insulating foam is all up, and the filter tanks are framed in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Got it lined with water and filled today. The building foundation was off level by about 3" so I had do some custom cutting to make my filter boxes work out. Holds about 46" of water at this level.

I moved 110 koi from the pond in the basement into this new pond. Mainly to get a load going and start the cycling. The pond in the basement can now be dismantled. My wife was very happy.

Since this pond will be for small koi, I am trying something a little different with the bottom drain covers. Little koi are always going through the drains, so I used some hot glue to glue some plastic mesh around the drain. We'll see if I like it or not.
