Why install a settling chamber ? When your pump is directly in your pond, it grinds up any fish waste or debris, making it even smaller and harder to remove with mechanical filtration. Grinding this gunk will also wear out your pump and reduce the life of your pump. |

How does a settling chamber work ? Using Gravity !!! When the pump draws water from the settling chamber, gravity will force water from the pond through the pipes and back into the settling chamber. Water always wants to seek its own level. |

Should I consider a settling chamber ? If your are looking for a low maintenance pond, I would definetly reccommend a settling chamber no matter what size it is. A settling chamber is the first system of mechanically eliminating the waste from your pond. |

Im going to put in a settling chamber, but what size ? Size depends on the flow rate of the pump you will be using. At minimum, you should look for a 5 minute dwell time. For example, a 4400gallon per hour pump, pumps 73 gallons per minute. A 370 gallon settling chamber would give a retion time of 5 minutes. |
